Our brief was to deliver a comprehensive, high-capacity community facility that could support organised sport and heavy public use, through a fully managed, end-to-end approach.
Auckland Council
Ti Rākau Park, Pakūranga, Auckland

Ti Rākau Park is a busy community hub, used daily by local families and sports clubs. The upgrade replaced ageing facilities that no longer met current expectations for safety, functionality or user needs.
Early works uncovered key site constraints, including asbestos removal, ageing infrastructure and the need to operate within an active public space. This required careful coordination and a delivery approach focused on minimising disruption while maintaining programme certainty.
We delivered a full turnkey solution. This included demolition of the existing toilet and changing facilities, safe asbestos removal, and installation of a new, modern amenities building.
The new facility includes four full-size changing rooms, each with three hot water showers, a dedicated referee room, and four public toilets – a mix of accessible and standard. The layout better supports current patterns of use, including increased participation in women’s sport, while improving flow, safety and usability.
A prefabricated approach meant the majority of the build was completed offsite, allowing for greater control and a faster install on site. This reduced disruption in a high-use park and supported a more efficient programme.
Construction was staged to allow continued use of the park wherever possible. The new changing rooms and public toilets are now fully operational.
The result is a robust, high-performing facility that supports both organised sport and everyday use, designed for durability, ease of maintenance and long-term community value.
“Ti Rākau Park is a well-used community space, so it was important the upgraded facilities were delivered safely and efficiently. With strong use by local clubs and families, reliable, fit-for-purpose amenities are essential.”
