The renewal of the Blockhouse Bay Recreational Reserve amenities called for a practical, long-term solution to replace the existing building while improving accessibility, safety and usability for the local community.
The project involved the removal of an ageing, asbestos-containing facility and the relocation of the new amenity block to a more suitable position within the reserve. Careful consideration was given to protecting mature trees, existing park infrastructure and surrounding recreational spaces throughout construction.
Permaloo's prefabricated concrete construction approach allowed the new facility to be manufactured off-site while demolition, earthworks, foundations and service preparations were undertaken on-site. This coordinated process was designed to reduce construction time within the reserve, minimise disruption to sports clubs and visitors, and provide greater certainty around project delivery.
The new facility was designed with accessibility, durability and ease of maintenance in mind. Robust precast concrete construction provides a long-lasting solution suited to regular public use, while the updated layout and positioning improve access and functionality for reserve users.
