Having started out in purely concrete products over 60 years ago, we have evolved into more and more innovative products. Our product range now expands across public toilets, sustainable bathroom hardware and outdoor furniture, and clever concrete storage solutions. Of course we couldn’t have achieved this without a legacy of hard work, market research and attention to detail.
Originally set up by Trevor Beattie as Beatties Concrete Products, the company manufactured and supplied concrete tanks and troughs throughout Gisborne. In 1960 Charlie Tohill took over and operated as Permacrete, and what better name to describe this versatile, reliable and permanent material.
New ownership in 1995 brought a fresh impetus to the company. Kevin and Helen Smith saw Permacrete as the ideal vehicle to involve their whole family, utilising the diverse skills of their four sons: Leighton, Ryan, Weston and Darren. Even today, PermaGroup is 100 percent family owned and operated with;
- Leighton as Plant Manager,
- Ryan as Sales Manager,
- Weston who looks after the marketing and day to day running of the factory, and
- Darren who owns Trenchline Contracting Limited, a company previously developed and owned by the family. However he still supports PermaGroup and vice versa.
- Kevin, who although officially retired, still puts in an appearance every day.
It’s this dedication and commitment to the company, and each other that ensures their continued success.
Gone are the days when we only serviced the Gisborne community. We now operate Permacrete, Permaloo, Permafab and Permastore across New Zealand offering our custom-built solutions to all regions.
