Waterloo Reserve, Auckland

The Waterloo Reserve project called for a practical, low-maintenance public toilet facility that would complement the surrounding reserve while providing reliable amenities for visitors.
Working with Auckland Council, Permaloo developed a three-pan prefabricated toilet design featuring an extended monopitch roof, with generous overhangs to the front and rear. The design also incorporates a covered picnic area, creating a more versatile public amenity that supports the wider recreational space.
Constructed from 40MPa reinforced precast concrete, the facility is designed to withstand regular public use while minimising ongoing maintenance requirements. Vertical detailing in the external concrete walls adds architectural interest, demonstrating how robust public infrastructure can also contribute positively to its surroundings.
Internally, the facility features accessible layouts designed to meet NZS 4121:2001 requirements, alongside durable stainless steel fixtures, anti-slip tiled flooring and easy-clean surfaces. Automatic lighting, security-focused fittings and practical drainage solutions further support long-term functionality and ease of maintenance.
The result is a thoughtfully designed public facility that brings together accessibility, durability and everyday practicality, providing a lasting asset for Waterloo Reserve and its visitors.
