Public space infrastructure often needs to balance durability, practicality, installation efficiency and long-term flexibility.
For these Gisborne installations, a precast concrete approach provided a simple and robust solution that could be delivered quickly with minimal disruption to the surrounding areas.
One of the key benefits highlighted during the simple and efficient approval process was the minimal land disturbance required during installation, particularly within areas affected by coastal erosion considerations. The relocatable nature of the units also provides added flexibility for the future if surrounding site conditions or layouts change over time.
Both picnic tables were delivered and installed quickly, creating durable, vandal-resistant public seating designed for long-term use in well-used community spaces.
The installations were already receiving positive feedback from locals during installation, with comments around the solid, durable feel of the tables within these busy community spaces.
The project also highlights the value of locally manufactured public infrastructure designed specifically for New Zealand environments and conditions.
The finished result is durable, low-maintenance public seating that was quick to install, easy to approve, and built to adapt alongside changing environments over time.
