The coastal location meant the toilets had to be able to withstand harsh conditions as well as fit into the environment, the footprint of the existing carpark and conform to height restrictions to not obstruct views from local houses.

Standout features are the unique outdoor “surfboard” showers and custom-designed roof with large laminated beams mounted off unique concrete plinths. Dunes are retained by thick concrete walls to create space and access to the beach and seating, and a ramp was installed to make the toilets wheelchair-friendly.
The building has been designed to for easy maintenance and cleaning, especially around the removal of sand, and features the highest quality, most durable materials. It also serves to showcase PermaLoo’s scope of architectural design, and continues to attract positive feedback
