Emphasis was on the cultural and historical values of the site, drawing on the palisade fencing used by Māori settlements. The purpose was to give the whole site a consistent appearance.

This facility features male and female changing rooms, two unisex pans and one pan for disabled visitors. A roof that doubles as a viewing platform was used to create additional functionality. Walls are tiled with a gloss finish, there is a tiled non-skid floor, and high quality, commercial grade, stainless steel fittings are used throughout.
All these features combine to make this an easy-to-maintain facility that visitors admire and the community is very proud of.
